PUBLIC HEARINGS (and action)
- PUBLIC HEARING I: The purpose of the Public Hearing is to receive citizens' comments on a proposed Text Amendment to Section 2.12 - Relationship of Building to Lot: The amendment seeks to remove a setback requirement specifically for detached garages and carports that differs from the accessory structure requirements of the district as prescribed in Section 8.1 - Dimensional Requirements Table. Council adopted the proposed amendments.
- PUBLIC HEARING II: The purpose of the Public Hearing is to receive citizens' comments on proposed Text Amendments to Appendix A- Definitions of the Unified Development Ordinance to address Ground Level: The amendment seeks to add definitions for each to provide better guidance to property owners, builders, and Town Boards seeking information on these kinds of structures.
Council adopted the Planning Board’s recommendation for the amendments.
PRESENTATIONS, PROCLAMATIONS AND RECOGNITIONS
- Presentation -- Business Advisory Board: Representatives from the Board will give an update on Board activities.
- Presentation -- Brunswick County Schools: A representative from Brunswick County Schools will present information on the Bond Referendum, which will be on the November ballot.

CONSENT AGENDA
- Approval of Minutes for the June 10 (Regular Meeting), June 16 (Special Meeting), June 18 (Special Meeting), June 19 (Special Meeting), June 22, and July 1, 2026, Town Council Meetings.
- Consideration of Approving Excused Absences for an Advisory Board Member: The request comes from a member of the Business Advisory Board.
- Consideration of Contract for Annual Beach Monitoring: The Town typically does an annual beach survey to document current conditions.
- Consideration of a Utilities Easement and Property Owner Acknowledgement of the Terms for the Voluntary Donation Of Property to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (for the installation of pedestrian signals on East Oak Island Drive at 79th Street): The NCDOT has requested a utilities easement for this signal and crosswalks project.
Council approved the Consent Agenda as presented.

- Consideration of Amending the 2026 Meeting Schedule to Change the August Meeting Date: Council may revise the 2026 Meeting Schedule to move the August meeting to the 18th. The August regular meeting date will be August 18.
- Consideration of a Request for Business License - High Tide Powersports (26-00058) Application: There is an application to operate a UTV rental business in town, and license requests such as these are required by ordinance to be heard by the Town Council. This item was removed from the agenda.
- Consideration of Amendments to Chapter 28 - Traffic, Article II - Golf Carts as Mobility Assistance Devices: Staff has prepared revised list of beach access locations and associated ordinance amendments along with a number of proposed “housekeeping” changes. The ordinance amendments were approved.
- Consideration of Budget Ordinance Amendment for Land Purchase: A Budget Ordinance Amendment is needed for the purchase of a property adjacent to Middleton Park and the Public Services buildings. There was no action taken on this item.

Unless specifically announced or advertised otherwise, all public meetings of the Oak Island Town Council and the Oak Island Planning Board are held in the Town Council Chambers, located on the second floor of the Town Hall at 4601 E Oak Island Drive; and are broadcast live on OKI-TV (Spectrum Cable channels 8 / 122), as well as live streamed on this page.
