Excursions

Join Oak Island Parks & Recreation Department for our 2026 Excursions! We plan to travel to various different places, with trips to various museums, attractions, and beautiful natural areas. These excursion are a great way to meet new people in the community and make some great connections over the places we intend to visit. Each different excursion will be listed as an individual session, so you are able to go ahead and plan out for the ones you would like to register for! If you have any questions, please reach out to Jacob Hyle at jhyle@oakislandnc.gov for more information!

Please note that the larger scale, holiday excursion, will be posted separately, in line with the release of our Christmas event registration. Thank you for your understanding!

Weekly Programs

Storytime by the Sea

Engaging stories set to the backdrop of the breathtaking views from the 801 Ocean Event Center make for the perfect way to spend time together as a family. This free series invites participants ages 12 and under to enjoy coastal themed story reading, followed by Arts & Crafts to take home.

Teens TV & Film Acting Class

Lights! Camera! Confidence! Acting classes for teens aged 14–18, focused on film-style performance, audition skills, and creative self-expression through scene study and screen-focused techniques! All in a fun, encouraging space. Taught by Actor & Filmmaker KAMRYN SANDS.

WHERE: Recreation center

Time: 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm - one day a week

COST: $100 / month

Table Tennis Club

Join in on the fun each Friday morning for a FUN game of Table Tennis! Games are free to play, and there is no need to register, just show up and join in. The group meets in the Sea Turtle room except the 2nd Friday of the month where they will meet in the Salt Marsh Room. If you have any questions contact the Recreation Center at 910-278-5518.

Island Activities

Explore The Davis Canal Kayak Tours

Enjoy Oak Island's beauty from the water! Guided trips are available through the Oak Island Recreation Department. Trips last approximately 2 hours and include kayak rentals, paddle, PFD and experienced guides. Paddle difficulty is easy.

June Craft Class

Come create a textured piece of art with hot glue. No painting skill required! A 5x7 canvas, paint, and hot glue are provided. Just bring your creativity!

Surf Fishing Seminars with Tracy Mastin

You'll learn everything you need to take a fish from the surf sand to the frying pan. In this class, specifically designed for Oak Island anglers, we'll discuss the different fish in our surf and talk about the right rig and bait for the fish you want to catch.

Dutchman Dinghy Dash

When: Saturday, August 1, 2026• 10:00 AM
Where: Dutchman Creek Park • 4750 Fish Factory Road

Helmets are required for youth 12 and under.
Youth division must be two 12 and under person crew.
If you have 1 adult and 1 youth you are in the adult division.
All participants must bring their own life jacket!!

Objective:
  To build a Dutchman Creek Worthy" vessel; using cardboard, duct tape, and glue that will successfully carry two passengers from a starting line at the kayak launch to the finish line at the end.

Entry Fee:
Donation of at least $10.00 in non-perishable goods (canned food, utensils, ect.), for use in future donation events.

Chop With A Cop

Tuesday , June 23 , 2026 • 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM at Throw Baxe (806 N Howe Street • Southport , NC Calling all teens, let's bury the hatchet!
Chop with a Cop is an exciting and FREE program that allows teens aged 13-18 to join officers from four different agencies in axe throwing competition. Only 48 spaces available!  Teams will be randomly assigned; however selected time slots will be honored. Competition will be held in two sessions: 10:00 AM - NOON and 1:00 PM - 3:00PM.

The Oak Island PD, Leland PD, BSL PD, Southport PD and Brunswick County PD will all be there.
