Did you know? You can reserve park spaces or public amenities, including picnic shelters, sports fields, playgrounds, or even buildings / rooms! Oak Island has several public spaces which can be rented for private events.

Additionally, the Town of Oak Island offers several spaces which are available to host Special Events.

Special Event Policy & Application

The Event Policy & Guideline(PDF, 326KB) distinguishes between Special Events, Town Events, Programs and Activities, and groups events into a Classification Scale of 0 - 5, based on factors such as expected crowd size and impact on Town resources.

  • Note: Small wedding ceremonies on the beach do not require an Event Permit; however, obtaining a permit is recommended, so that first responders can be aware of your group's location if emergency response is needed.

Event Notification Permit

The purpose of this notification permit is to inform the Town and emergency services of an upcoming event that may result in a larger-than-usual gathering at a specific location.

While this notification does not serve as a request for permission to hold the event, it ensures that emergency personnel and relevant departments are aware of the increased activity and can prepare accordingly to maintain public safety and coordinate any necessary support services.

Hours of Operation

Operating hours for all parks and recreation areas are from one hour before sunrise, to one hour after sunset, unless otherwise specifically noted. Exceptions include:

  • Veterans Memorial Park, the Oak Island Cabana, and the Middleton Park Complex: sunrise to midnight, seven days a week.
  • The Fishing Tee at the end of West Oak Island Drive: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM, seven days a week.
  • The Bill Smith Park: 8:00 AM to dark,

Alcoholic Beverages

Alcoholic beverage possession and/or consumption is prohibited in all parks and recreational areas, unless specifically authorized by the Town Manager.

Facility Rentals for Non-Profit Agencies

The Town of Oak Island recognizes the important role that non-profit organizations play in strengthening the community, enhancing the quality of life for residents, and providing vital services and programs.

The Facility Rental Policy for Non-Profit Agencies(PDF, 641KB) is intended to continue to promote partnerships between the Town of Oak Island and non-profit entities by offering a discounted rate on Town-owned facility rentals. By supporting these organizations, the Town seeks to foster stronger relationships, increase public access to meaningful programming, and ensure lasting benefits to residents of Oak Island.
