Water Conservation Status Update
Currently, Brunswick County remains at the Stage 2 MANDATORY Water Conservation Alert it upgraded to on Friday, June 26, 2026. As drought conditions continue to worsen, this Stage 2 alert requires water customers who do not use private groundwater wells or reclaimed water to only use their irrigation systems between the hours starting at 8:00 PM through 4:00 AM on their respective days:
- All address numbers: No irrigation on Mondays
- Odd address numbers and non-addressed facilities: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday (only between 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.)
- Even address numbers: Wednesday, Friday, Sunday (only between 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.)
Brunswick County first issued a Stage 1 Voluntary Water Conservation Alert on June 9, 2026, which was upgraded to Stage 2 on June 26, when a majority of the County was identified as being under Extreme Drought (D3) conditions. These conditions continue to strain demands on water, particularly related to irrigation use. Irrigation represent the majority of non-essential water use, so a primary way that customers can reduce water usage is to limit irrigation.

Town Hall Parking Change Reminder
Quick reminder first introduced last week, as of Monday, July 6 the gravel parking area located directly being Town Hall and adjacent to the Pickleball, Tennis, and Basketball Courts have transitioned to Resident & Town Staff Parking Only. This change will help to ensure an adequate number of spaces for residents utilizing these facilities, as well as Town Public Safety and Public Works employees who also park in these areas. Additionally, signage improvements will be made to emphasize Town Employees ONLY in the parking lot to the West of Town Hall on SE 46th Street.
As part of this change, parking will be enforced in both lots by the contracted service vendor, Otto Connect. All Vehicles parked in these lots must present a Town Employee hangtag or be registered as a resident through the SurfCast application.
For any visitors unable to use these lots and looking for a new place to park, the SurfCast app has launched its NEW OttoView feature! This gives users the online ability to identify parking areas with open spaces. Par 3 Golf Improvements Continue
Another great update in the ongoing Greens Improvement Project out at Oak Island Par 3 Golf, where some serious work has been underway to enhance the playability and overall course conditions. The team has now successfully renovated the greens on holes #2, #4, & #5. Each green received new sod, while the surrounding areas were carefully graded, leveled, and improved to provide a smoother, more consistent playing surface.
The transformation has been incredible, and it's thrilling to see the progress made so far, but the improvements haven't stopped there! In addition to these renovations, greens throughout the rest of the course have been repaired and patched to address worn areas and improve overall playing conditions. Cleanup and maintenance in several bunkers has also been completed, as well as hydroseeding in multiple areas, to promote healthy turf growth and establish fuller, more consistent playing surfaces.
The construction phase is mostly complete, and temporary greens will remain in place while the new turf continues to mature and the recently sodded areas establish a healthy root system. In the meantime, if you haven't checked out the Oak Island Par 3 lately, remember there's no tee times and no memberships required! So stop by at 4188 Vanessa Drive, or visit the Par 3 Golf page at OakIslandNC.gov/GOLF or click the link below.
