Important Labor Day Weekend Event & Traffic Information for Oak Island

Throughout the weekend ahead, the Town of Oak Island will be hosting several major public events, beginning with the Movie Night In Middleton on Friday, September 4, followed by the Sunset On Summer Music Festival on Saturday, September 5.

NOTICE: These events, combined with expected the Labor Day weekend visitor population, could heavily impact travel throughout Town. To help ensure a safe and fun weekend for everyone, please review the important information provided below for each event.

Movie Night (Friday)

Join Oak Island Parks & Recreation as they help kickoff the Sunset On Summer weekend with a special Friday night showing of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie right here in the Middleton Park Complex! Bring the kids and all of your "Mario Bros" out to watch one of this Summer's newest and biggest blockbusters on a GIANT 16-foot wide LED video wall!

EVENT

  • WHEN: Friday September 4, 2026
    • 5:30 PM Trivia & Prizes 
    • 6:30 PM: Movie
  • VENDORS: Popcorn, Sodas, Candy (limited food)

PARKING

Paid Parking will NOT be enforced AFTER 5:00 PM; however, anyone arriving early, prior to 5:00 PM, will need a valid parking permit if in a Paid Parking space. Specifically marked Town Resident Parking spaces may be enforced up to 9:00 PM.

TRAFFIC

All vehicle traffic will be free-flowing, with no closures our detours in place. Traffic will be two-way (in/out) for the Middleton Park Complex parking lot at 4610 E Dolphin Drive

The Town of Oak Island is excited to host its Fourth Annual Sunset On Summer Music Festival in the Middleton Park Complex, showcasing the talent of FOUR bands across TWO stages, along with multiple food, beverage, and craft vendors onsite; all followed by an amazing End Of Summer Fireworks Display after sunset! 

EVENT

  • WHEN: September 5, 2026 • NOON - 8:00 PM
    • NOON: The Ford Project
    • 3:00 PM: The Main Event Band
    • 6:00 PM: Petty Rewind
    • 2:00 PM & 5:00 PM: (Second Stage) Chandler Carpenter & The Reckless Souls
    • 8:00 PM: Fireworks Display
  • VENDORS: Food, Artisand Crafts, Beer, Wine / Spirits
  • SPONSORS: Coastal Race Productions, Northrop Realty, Coastal Carolina Group Realty, Captial Ford

PARKING

PAID PARKING WILL NOT be enforced in an EXTENDED area from SE 40th Street to SE 49th Street

  • This DOES NOT include Beach Access Locations or other areas where Paid Parking is enforced
  • Streetside parking in the Right-Of-Way (ROW) will requires ALL tires to be completely OFF the pavement

The Parking Lot for the Middleton Park Complex at 4610 E Dolphin Drive will be ONE-WAY traffic:

  • ENTER from E Dolphin Drive
  • EXIT onto E Beach Drive

TRAFFIC

E Dolphin Drive will be CLOSED to thru-traffic from SE 49th Street to the Parking Lot entrance.

Additional traffic control measures may be in place throughout the area around the Middleton Park Complex. It is important that drivers follow all traffic direction on site, and DO NOT drive around barricades through closed areas!

When traveling, remember to: USE CAUTION • DRIVE SLOWLY • WATCH for PEDESTRIANS!

CLOSURES

Tennis & Basketball Courts will be CLOSED at NOON on Friday, September 4, to allow for setup of the Event Operations Center

Pickleball Courts will be CLOSED at 8:00 AM on Saturday, September 5, to allow for offloading and setup of the Fireworks Display

IMPORTANT

All events will be held "RAIN OR SHINE" and will only be canceled in the event of severe weather in the immediate area.
