PREVIOUS UPDATE
FRIDAY, JULY 10, 2026: Brunswick County has moved to a Stage 3 Water Shortage Warning / MANDATORY Restrictions.
As part of the Stage 3 Water Shortage, the Oak Island Splashpad has now been CLOSEDuntil further notice. This closure took effect following the end of the Summer Concert Series on Friday, July 10, and also prohibits any future private rentals of the Splashpad
Oak Island Parks & Recreation had initially made efforts to keep the facility in operation during the Stage 2 Alert, reducing to "weekend only" hours; however, with the move to Stage 3 that option is no longer available.
IMPORTANT: The water filtration system for the Splashpad will still need to "purge" periodically, causing it to look like it is in operation to those in the area. This only lasts for a few minutes at a time, and is NOT part of operations restarting. Any announcement on when Splashpad operations will fully resume will come from the Town first as an update to THIS notice!

(NOTE: Information no longer valid)
JULY 9, 2026 • To assist with conservation requests from Brunswick County during the Mandatory Water Conservation Alert, the Oak Island Splashpad will begin operating on a reduced schedule.
Starting on Monday, July 13, 2026 the Splashpad will be:
CLOSED on Monday – Thursday
OPEN during regular hours on Friday – Sunday
Please note, this will NOT affect the extended Friday hours the Splashpad remains open during the Summer Concert Series, or any private rentals which were booked prior to this notice. Moving forward, any new private rentals will only be available on Saturdays & Sundays.
This action will help to conserve the more than 2,000 gallons of water used by the Splashpad each day to recover loss from evaporation and overspill. Even on a reduced schedule, Oak Island Parks & Recreation staff will continue to work hard to provide this much-appreciated facility for as long as possible, as conservation efforts continue to increase amid the worsening drought conditions.
As a community, everyone plays an important role in conserving water resources. When small, everyday actions to minimize water usage are taken by everyone, they can add up to help prevent or delay further restrictions. These include minimizing non-essential water use and adhering to the Irrigation Schedules provided Brunswick County Public Utilities.
