Special Message From Police Chief Charlie Morris

During the Town Council meeting this past Tuesday, September 8, Oak Island Police Chief Charlie Morris gave an "End Of Season" update on the No Wake Zone Street Safety Campaign.

As seen in the special video message above, Chief Morris views the program as a success, commending residents for volunteering to "host" program signage in their yards, as well as Officers for an extended 101 days of focused efforts. This including daily education drives and citizen engagements in the target areas. As a result, we have seen a significant reduction in accidents in the target areas, with Yacht Drive down by more than 25% this year so far.

Although the program is coming to and for this season, the goal remains the same: to encourage safe travel in all areas of Oak Island.

Since the initial Kickoff Event back on May 22, this new shared safety initiative between the Police Department and Town Residents has worked to encourage street safety through multiple means of travel, whether by pedestrians, cyclists, or vehicle and LSV drivers.
