ORIGINAL NOTICE
(July 14, 2026 • 12:30 PM) Due to potential contamination from improperly mixed cleaning chemicals, the Lil & John's Sweetreat Ice Cream Parlor located at 5700 E Oak Island Drive has been temporarily evacuated while crews work to respond.
At this time, there is no danger to the surrounding area, and there are no street closures; however, pedestrians should NOT walk through the area as crews work to respond, and drivers should keep traffic moving through the area, and NOT slow down to view the response.
Additional partner agencies are responding, include specialized Hazmat teams from Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point who are onsite and assisting with cleanup.
