The Town of Oak Island is developing a Coastal Resilience Strategy and invites residents to help shape its priorities by attending a Town-wide Open House Survey event. Community members are encouraged to review the proposed resilience projects and provide feedback to help guide project prioritization.
The Open House Survey will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the Council Chambers (second floor), located at 4601 E. Oak Island Drive. This will be a drop-in event, allowing the community to attend at any time throughout the hours of operation. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the recommended projects and share their input on which resilience initiatives should be prioritized as part of the Town's Coastal Resilience Strategy.
For those unable to attend the Open House, the Open House materials have been adapted into a survey that will be available on the project website, OakIslandResilience.com, until September 23, 2026.
The Coastal Resilience Strategy is being developed in partnership with the N.C. Resilient Coastal Communities Program (RCCP) through a locally driven process. The strategy will establish coastal resilience goals, evaluate community capacity, and identify and prioritize projects that strengthen resilience to coastal hazards. The program will build local capacity while advancing a proactive, equitable, and sustainable approach to coastal resiience.
