The Town of Oak Island Trees to Sea Citizenship Award is an honor given by the Town on behalf of its residents to a deserving person in recognition of his or her contributions to Oak Island.
Nominations can be made by anyone in the community-at-large, but the nominee must be a citizen of Oak Island. The final selection of an awardee is made by the Town Council, with a presentation of the award made at a regularly scheduled Town Council meeting.

In order to be considered worthy of this recognition, an individual must meet one or more of the following criteria:
The Certificate of Appreciation recognizes either a person’s sustained effort or a single effort to go above and beyond to work toward betterment of our community and its citizens and otherwise confers no special privileges.
This Award shall be selected and given on a annual basis, if sufficient nominations are received.
Nominations will be received from January 1 - April 30, to be reviewed and voted on by the Town Council during the MAY regular meeting, with Awards presented during the regular later in the year.
Nominations shall be submitted to the Mayor, any Town Council member, or the Town Manager, using the form provided on this page, which can be found online at OakIslandNC.gov/AWARD.
Nominations received will be forwarded to the Town Manager by the current deadline for the award schedule.
Nominations will be presented to and voted on by the Oak Island Town Council the month prior to the award presentation, with a 4 / 5 vote of approval required to confirm the awardee.
Town of Oak Island elected officials currently in office and current employees are not eligible to receive this award.
The recipient(s) will be announced and honored at the next Town Council meeting following the selection process.
The Award recipient will receive a Trees to Sea Citizenship Certificate of Award from the Mayor and Council.
