Chief Charlie Morris, along with the Oak Island Police Department and the entire Town of Oak Island, are proud to recognize Cadet Willow Tighe and Officer John Wilbur on their recent graduation from the Brunswick Community College Basic Law Enforcement Training Class 74.

Please help us congratulate them on this well-earned accomplishment, as they further enhance the services provided to our residents & visitors!

Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) provides students with the essential skills required for work as law enforcement officers. The Oak Island Police Department values the strong partnership that Brunswick Community College provides within our local community.

Graduation from a BLET course in North Carolina is essential to serving with the Oak Island Police Department; where even our officers who may be previously qualified and experienced in other regions or areas, still participate in this course. This program utilizes state commission-mandated topics and methods of instruction, and includes topics such as criminal, juvenile, civil, traffic, and alcoholic beverage laws; along with investigative, patrol, custody, and court procedures; emergency responses and community relations.
