The Oak Island Town Council will hold its next regular meeting on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers, located on the second floor of Town Hall at 4601 E Oak Island Drive.
Sign-up sheets for commenting during the public comment period will be available in the back of the Council Chambers prior to the start of the meeting. Individual speakers will have three minutes. PUBLIC HEARING(S) AND ACTION
PUBLIC HEARING I (AND ACTION): The purpose of the Public Hearing is to receive citizens' comments on 26-00097 - Proposed Text Amendment to the Unified Development Ordinance Section(s) - 8.1.1.10.1, 7.2.2., and 7.11.1 (to revise the prescribed setbacks for swimming pools located in the rear on through-lots) (26-00097): The proposed amendments would allow swimming pools to be constructed in the rear of a through-lot utilizing the accessory structure setback from all property lines.
PUBLIC HEARING II (AND ACTION): The purpose of the Public Hearing is to receive citizens comments on Potential Implementation of Blue Ribbon Summit on Pedestrian and Traffic Safety Recommendations: Council heard a presentation in February, held a workshop meeting on March 19 and may now consider whether to implement recommendations.

COUNCIL REPORTS (MAYOR AND COUNCIL)
I. CONSENT AGENDA
I.1 Approval of Minutes (March 17, 2026 Public Hearings & Regular Meeting, and March 19, 2026 Special Meeting)
I.2 Approval of Amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding with The Brough Law Firm: The flat rate for attending a meeting would increase by $100.
I.3 Approval of Action to Set the Speed Limit at 25 for all of Holly Drive: At the March 19 workshop, Council came to a consensus to reduce the speed limit on Holly Drive, and this will formalize that decision.
I.4 Consideration of a Resolution Exempting a Particular Project from Article 3d Of Chapter 143 of the North Carolina General Statutes: Staff recommends adoption of the Resolution.
I.5 Oak Island Par 3 Greens Rebuild Project - Phase 1: The proposal is for hiring a golf course specialist to address greens number 2, 3 and 4.
I.6 Consideration of Amending Sec. 28-42 - Parking on Public Streets and Rights-of Way of the Town Code of Ordinances: The ordinance amendment would prohibit parking in the right-of-way on a portion of Country Club Drive.
I.7 Approval of Amendment to GFL Contract: The amendment will change the timing for rate increases from GFL from January to July to align with the Town’s fiscal year, and a prorated amount is included to cover January through June.
I.8 Consideration of Lease for Koko Cabana: Council will consider a one-year lease for the restaurant.
II. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS: Department reports are available on the Town's website at OakIslandNC.gov/DEPT
III. OLD BUSINESS
III.1 Consideration of Adopting the Parks and Recreation Master Plan: The Plan was presented last month, and Council may take action to approve the Plan.
IV. NEW BUSINESS
IV.1 Consideration of Approval for an Ordinance Ordering Further Proceedings Under The Purpose of the Town of Oak Island Minimum Housing Code and G.S. § 160d Article 12: Council is asked to approve an ordinance, which follows an administrative hearing and order.
V. CLOSED SESSION to Discuss Specific Personnel pursuant to N.C.G.S. 143-318.11(a)(6).
