The Town of Oak Island is currently preparing a Coastal Resilience Strategy and as a part of community outreach, residents are encouraged to attend a Town-wide Public Meeting for an introduction to the 2026 Town of Oak Island Coastal Resilience Strategy. The Public Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 30, from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers located at 4601 E Oak Island Drive, second floor.

The Coastal Resilience Strategy is being developed in partnership with the N.C. Resilient Coastal Communities Program (RCCP) through a locally driven process. The strategy will establish coastal resilience goals, evaluate community capacity, and identify and prioritize projects that strengthen
resilience to coastal hazards. The program will build local capacity while advancing a proactive, equitable, and sustainable approach to coastal resilience.

The Public Meeting will include a brief presentation led by the Town’s project consultant, Colliers Engineering & Design, overviewing the planning process, schedule, and outcomes for the Coastal Resilience Strategy. Following the presentation, and interactive exercise will give attendees an opportunity to provide direct insight and ideas for the Coastal Resilience Strategy. Team members will also be available to answer questions.

More information about the Oak Island Coastal Resilience Strategy, upcoming events, and how the community can get involved can be found at www.OakIslandResilience.com. The Public Meeting presentation and summary will be made available on the project website after the Public Meeting.
