Partial Closure of Oak Island Pier & Beach Access Location

Published on March 20, 2026

Pier notice of closure

Starting TODAY (Friday), March 20, 2026 the end section of the Oak Island Pier, including all King Fishing Stations, will be CLOSED to the public for approximately 2-3 weeks, to allow for the complete replacement of a damaged piling towards the end of the Pier

Additionally, the Beach Access Location between the Pier and the 801 Ocean Event Center will also be CLOSED, to allow for equipment and materials staging.

During this time, the Pier House and more than 700’ in the front section of the Pier will remain OPEN. Limited Beach Access will still be available through the steps on the pier itself, but those carrying beach equipment or with mobility impairments should use the nearby Access Locations at Barbee Blvd. and Keziah Street (handicap access).

Originally anticipated to begin sometime later this month, an earlier than expected delivery of materials has allowed contractors to begin immediately on the replacement project.

Updates on this project will be provided on the Oak Island Pier webpage, where progress can also be visually seen on the Oak Island PierCam at OakIslandNC.gov/PIER or by clicking the link below.
